VIBAR

VIB Hackathon 2021 was organized by Vietnam International Bank, aiming to encourage participants aged from 20-30 to come up with innovative features for the myVIB app. It was divided into two tracks: Datarathon and Codevolution. Participated in Track 2, our team was fortunate enough to receive the 2nd place out of 299 teams.

VIB Hackathon 2021

DESIGN CHALLENGE
How might we elevate the current myVIB app to help users easily navigate to ATMs and branches and make banking a less intimidating experience?
THE SOLUTION
We came up with 3 features incorporating augmented reality
When the user selects AR Map, they can use their phone to view the road and get AR directions to get to the nearest bank or ATM via Google Live Street view.
SITEMAP
PROTOTYPE
Following VIB guidelines, we added a separate button for this group of 3 features on the Home page.
1. AR Map
When the user selects AR Map, they can use their phone to view the road and get AR directions to get to the nearest bank or ATM via Google Live Street view.
2. Bank Wayfinding
Once inside a bank, customers can use their phone camera to scan the space and get pop-ups of what each spot is for. With this feature, we aim to provide users with a good understanding of where they are and how they can interact with their surroundings. Hence, this would enhance their spatial awareness and make sure they are comfortable within the space.
3. View Balance
Customers can scan their physical VIB card and view current balance, a bar chart of the 4 most spent on categories and recent transactions in AR. Once tapped on a transaction, they can view its details. We hope this innovative and fun way of visualizing data can encourage new customers to try out the app, if so this will create a sharing effect and can help with the bank’s marketing.

REFLECTION
What I've learned & next steps
Overall, it was a nerve-racking but also an enlightening experience trying to develop and then defend our solutions to the stakeholders on the spot. I learned so much from this by applying principles in the classroom into a real-life project and to develop something that would hopefully benefit both the business and its users. I want to thank our developer and team leader for having been so dedicated to programming our prototype in such a short amount of time with little C# knowledge beforehand.

Looking forward, I'd like to refine the visual of the 3rd feature to make it more engaging and explore different colors, typography and micro-interactions for a more modern and fun look.
